Architectural shingles, nailed for the wind
The shingle is half the roof; the fastening schedule is the other half. We install laminated architectural shingles to the enhanced wind spec, because on this coast the standard spec is a gamble.

The wind rating matters more than the color
Shingle brochures sell color blends. The number that decides whether your roof is still there after a February nor’easter is the wind rating and the nailing behind it. We install laminated architectural shingles rated for 130 mph when installed to the enhanced spec, and then we actually install them to the enhanced spec: six nails per shingle, placed in the nailing zone, with starter strips sealed at the rakes where uplift begins.
That last clause is the whole trade. The same shingle nailed four times outside the zone carries roughly half the warranty wind speed, and nobody can see the difference from the driveway until the storm finds it.
The spec, opening to ridge
- Laminated architectural shingles with a coastal-appropriate wind rating, algae-resistant granules for our humid summers
- Six-nail fastening pattern on every shingle, hand-checked at the rakes and ridge
- Ice and water shield two courses deep at the eaves and full-width in valleys
- Matching hip and ridge caps over a continuous ridge vent, balanced against the soffit intake
- New step and counter flashing at chimneys and sidewalls, bent on site to fit
Signs your roof is asking
- Shingle tabs in the yard after a windstorm, or lifted edges you can see from the ground
- Granules collecting in the gutters; bald spots shining in afternoon light
- Ceiling stains that appear after wind-driven rain but not after gentle rain
- A roof over twenty years old on a house you plan to keep
One of these alone is worth a look, not necessarily a roof. Start at the roofing overview for how we judge repair against replacement.

Underlayment, ice shield coverage, fastening pattern, venting: it is all itemized in the scope, so you can compare bids on substance instead of price alone.
